No Decision On ADC Yet- Coalition Debunks

Salihu Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West) and a key figure in the opposition coalition led by Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai has rubbished reports of the coalition adopting the African Democratic Congress as its preferred platform.

Mr Lukman revealed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, which dismissed reports about the coalition's adoption of the African Democratic Congress. He further denied  online reports of his appointment as head of the coalition's secretariat, calling them baseless and potentially planted.

Lukman issued the clarification amid reports that the coalition had chosen the ADC, coming on the heels of a wave of defections from opposition leaders and lawmakers to the APC.

Recall that Babachir Lawal, another key coalition member and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, had dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party as a viable option, likening it to an 'incurable virus'.

Assuring stakeholders that a formal announcement would be made once negotiations are finalized, informed that consultations among key figures are advancing smoothly.

The statement while outlining the coalition's position, read: “The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken. Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

“The truth is negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well, and final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election will be taken soon.

“Unfortunately, there appears to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders.

“The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.”
