Everything that has advantages also has disadvantages. Going to a same-sex school can come with some challenges. This is because of the fact that the students are humans and humans are bound to make mistakes. Sometimes, even if they don’t want to make mistakes, they will be influenced by their friends or senior colleagues. There have been some arguments in favour of same-sex education over the mixed school system. This arguments border on discipline, focus, high concentration of same gender, reduction of emotional entanglement and distraction. However, it has been observed that there are some bad habits that are difficult to overcome in the same-sex schooling arrangement. They are as follows:
Same-sex Attraction: When it comes to people having feelings for people of the same gender, a lot of it began in a same-sex school. What could be the cause of this anomaly? It is because of exposure and proximity. Exposure, in the sense that the same gender in the same-sex schooling system is what they are exposed to on a daily basis. This exposure might lead to acts of service which may be some people’s love language. When you speak somebody’s love languages, twice or more, that person will naturally begin to grow likeness for you, not minding gender. In a situation where there is no boundaries like the case of same-sex school, the attraction will be fuel more by common grounds or closeness. People serving similar punishment or facing same problem may grow fond of each other, which may lead to same-sex physical attraction.
Masturbation: This is one of the habits that is difficult to overcome in a same-sex school. Due to the scarcity or absence of the opposite sex for sexual encounters, some of the students will resort to satisfying themselves. Masturbation is a solo sexual act involving the use of the hands or other objects on one’s sexual organs until one gets orgasm. In as much as there are many conflicting medical records as to whether it is right or wrong, engaging in excessive masturbation can reduce physical intimacy with somebody’s spouse when married. It might also lead to health issues like erectile dysfunction, low sperm count etc in men. In women, it can lead to lack of sexual satisfaction from your partner. Masturbation gives that feeling that you don’t need the opposite sex to be sexually satisfied but sex is meant to be consummated within the confines of a married man and woman. Some females students will go as far as masturbating with pen, pencil, candle, cucumber and the likes. These objects have negative impact on the health system especially the reproductive system and mental system that when it is time to stop it, it becomes difficult.
Homosexuality: This is the sexual engagement between a man and a man. It involves the penetration of the anus with the male reproductive organ. Students who are going to same-sex school like all boys school are prune to being involved in the habit of homosexuality act. It’s difficult to overcome because of the proximity to a same-sex partners. People who are into homosexuality tend to have same-sex attraction at first and that feeling gets complicated upon penetration. The truth about homosexuality is that it is a perverted form of sexual relationship. How does one begin to penetrate the opening that God created for excretion? That is sexual perversion at its core. It is better not to start at all because overcoming it will be very difficult.
Lesbianism: Just like homosexuality, lesbianism is a form of sexual relationship between two women. It involves the penetration and stimulation of the sexual organs until orgasm. This sexual entanglement is prevalent in All-girls schools. The level of lesbianism taking place in some of these same-sex schools is alarming and worrisome. Sometimes, it could start with a relationship between a school mother and a school daughter which ends up in sexual affairs. Once it becomes a habit, overcoming it becomes a herculean task.
Late Nights: There are times that sleeping early will become difficult. This is due to emotional imbalances and rollercoaster. Once such situation becomes habitual, it will now be difficult to overcome. It might lead to sleepless night and discomfort. It might also affect focus and concentration on academic works. There are also cases of students sneaking out of the school environment in order to socialize with people from the outside world, like the opposite gender. They are not to be blamed because man is by nature a social animal. Seeing the same gender all the time can be boring and discomforting. The problem arises from when they stay out late, forgetting that they are student. They might need to jump fence or engage in some criminal acts in or outside school, just to survive or be comfortable. This becomes a habit that is difficult to overcome.
Hating The Opposite Gender: A lot of people who went to same-sex school have this underlying hatred for the opposite gender. This is as a result of the orientation they were given in the school. A lot the girls are made to understand that they don’t need men in their lives as the men are just out to take advantage of them, both sexually and emotionally. They were told to stay away from relationships with men as it is dangerous to their studies and well-being due to unwanted pregnancy. This invariably builds up an aversion towards the male gender. The boys are also told to avoid women as it will affect their destiny. They were told to avoid women as women are just there for their resources. This builds resentment towards women.
Addiction To Pornography: Since, they are prohibited from engaging in sexual relationship, watching people engaging in sex becomes a habit. There are some schools that ban the use of phones but some students usually smuggle the phone into their hostels or classroom which they use in watching pornographic pictures and films. They influence other students to watch and then it becomes a habit that is difficult to overcome.
Overeating, Overspending, and Overdependence: When people do something for too long, it becomes difficult to stop. Too much of everything is bad, so they say. If you see people overeating, overspending, or overdoing anything, it’s just to fill up a vacuum or emptiness created by habits. Some even go as far as depending on drugs or alcohol as a coping mechanism. Humans are creatures of habit and whatever you know that you cannot stop on your own, don’t start it at all.
