“You Have 48 Hours To Resign” Labour Party To Peter Obi

The Labour Party’s Julius Abure-led faction has given Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, a 48-hour ultimatum to resign from the party.

This comes after Obi’s recent involvement in a new opposition coalition, which the LP faction strongly opposes.

According to Obiora Ifoh, LP spokesperson, the party views the coalition as a gathering of “recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians.” Ifoh stated that Obi’s decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a clear indication of his intention to leave the LP.

“We are aware of several nocturnal meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members, lobbying them to join him in his new party,” Ifoh alleged. “We’re also aware that a number of them have refused to defect with him.”

The LP faction emphasized that members with dual agendas would not be tolerated, stating, “Labour Party is not available for people with dual agenda, people with deceptive persona.”

Ifoh added that the party would not accommodate individuals with conflicting loyalties, saying, “People who, in the morning, claim to be in the Labour Party and in the evening are in the coalition.”

The LP remains committed to Nigeria’s renewal, urging members to stay loyal and maintain the party’s structure. Ifoh emphasized that the party’s vision for a new Nigeria differs from the coalition’s goals, stating, “The new Nigeria that the youths are dreaming of is not what can be realised from what we are seeing in the coalition.”

“The people in the coalition are opportunistic politicians who are only interested in relaunching themselves into the circle of power — people who are desperate to continue holding on to power,” Ifoh concluded.
