Sokoto South Senator Aminu Tambuwal has reiterated his stance against joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his unwillingness to seek “forgiveness of sins” as the primary reason.
Addressing a gathering of supporters in Sokoto, the former state governor emphasized his determination to stand firm with the people, rather than aligning himself with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“I do not want my sins to be forgiven so I can’t join the APC. I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be blackmailed. No one can tarnish my records,” Tambuwal declared, underscoring his unwavering commitment to his principles. He perceives Nigeria’s current political landscape as being starkly divided between those who support the Tinubu-led government and those who identify with the struggles of the Nigerian people, choosing to align himself with the latter ¹.
Tambuwal’s resolve to remain outside the APC’s fold comes amidst reports of his recent detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraudulent withdrawal of N189 billion from Sokoto State’s coffers. However, the senator dismissed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that his visit to the EFCC was voluntary and that no incriminating evidence was found against him
Tambuwal’s stance is seen as a significant development in Nigeria’s political sphere, particularly with the 2027 general elections on the horizon. His ADC party aims to galvanize support across the country to oust the APC from power, focusing on addressing pressing issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and poor governance.
