US President Donald Trump has suggested a potential regime shift in Iran amid escalating tensions with Israel.
Trump took to social media to share his perspective after the US carried out military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, hinting at further action and fueling the ongoing crisis.
“It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change MIGA!!!” he said in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump’s post contrasted with previous assurances from senior US officials that the US military action wasn’t aimed at toppling Iran’s government.
Recall that the conflict between Israel and Iran escalated further after the US launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The US actions reportedly aligned with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s goal of dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.
US allies, including the UK, claim the strikes neutralized the nuclear threat, while Iran maintains it has no plans for nuclear weapons development.
Trump, who has continuously urged Iran to surrender, said the strikes caused “monumental damage”.
Following a swift response from Iran who vowed that the US strikes would have “everlasting consequences,” a retaliatory missile strikes was launched at a US air base in Qatar on Monday.
