Kenya’s President Ruto Sacks Cabinet Ministers, Vows To Set Up Broad-Based Government

Kenya’s President Ruto sacks cabinet ministers, vows to set
up broad-based government

NAIROBI, July 11 (Political Vista)- In a surprise move,
Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed his entire cabinet, including
Attorney General, Muturi in response to widespread public outrage.

The decision comes after weeks of intense criticism and
nationwide protests, particularly from the youth, over Ruto’s proposed tax
hike, which he eventually abandoned.

Ruto has proposed a bill that he said would stabilize
Kenya’s economy but backtracked following anti-government protests which
resulted in the killing of at least 39 people during a face-off with the
police.

By sacking his ministers, Ruto aims to restore public trust
and confidence in his government.

Recall that last week, Ruto proposed spending cuts and
additional borrowing as means to fund the nearly $2.7 billion budget hole
caused by his aborted planned tax hike amidst widespread nationwide protests.

Speaking on Thursday’s broadcast after the dismissal address
of his cabinet, President Ruto also pledged to introduce a bill on Friday that
would prohibit state and public officials from participating in fundraising
events otherwise dubbed ‘Harambees’
